This article titled “The Uber Effect on Electricity” written by Llewellyn King highlights some important topics in energy today. Most of us have no say in the energy we use, how it is created or how we get it to our homes. This used to be the same with taking a Taxi Cab. We couldn’t choose the car we rode in, how early or late it would take to get a ride or how much we would pay. Today, Uber has disrupted the Taxi world with their ride-sharing technology. We are finally starting to see a similar disruption in the energy market with things like smart grid systems, solar/alternative energy and even battery storage capabilities.

We’ve hardly seen a change in the energy market for years. That’s because the utility companies don’t want any change. The utility companies, just like cabs profit from old methods that prevent creativity and better options for it’s consumers. We need to continue this disruption for a better tomorrow as it relates to energy. I believe that the disruption should start with deregulated as many energy markets throughout the U.S as possible.
